Who We Are

Rebuild Durham, Inc (RBD). RBD, established in 1999, is a tax-exempt non-profit Community Housing Redevelopment Organization (CHDO). Rebuild Communities NC is an initiative under the umbrella of Rebuild Durham, Inc. 

 


Our Mission
is to address barriers to growth and development of healthy, safe, and affordable communities in minority and low wealth neighborhoods. The mission is achieved through Community Development Housing Initiatives and Economic Development Coalitions. We promote positive aspects of African American History and Culture to increase community awareness of African American contributions. We provide workforce development training, homebuyer education, financial literacy, fair housing/lending education, and small/women owned business entrepreneurship programs to assist in economic mobility and wealth creation.

Our Team

Edythe Hall Thompson, Executive Director is a driven visionary and executive leader in the field of community and economic development. Hall Thompson has more than 20 years of experience in driving dramatic results in national economic development and partnership building. Hall Thompson is a former President for the Prince-George Maryland NAACP.

Glyndola Massenburg-Beasley, an accomplished pioneer in the housing counseling
industry for more than 35 years. Massenburg-Beasley has consistently demonstrated a vested
interest in serving the disenfranchised. Massenburg– Beasley is frequently called upon for new and
emerging initiatives, she will  lead the RBD housing services, providing access  to financial capability
training, housing education and  counseling, and rental services.  Massenburg-Beasley is a former 
President of the NC Association of Housing Counselors.

Tonya Hall, "My goal is to enhance the educational opportunities for those that have mostly dropped out of high school and may feel education isn't as important."  Hall is a veteran educator who has been an instructor at multiple institutions such as Durham Technical Community College and North Carolina Central University.  July 9, Hall started her first free four-week GED program. Robert M. Santucci and Carlis P. Sweat, our trainers have receive national awards for training excellence. They are masters of live instruction, a dynamic mixture of education and entertainment.   “If we haven’t done it, we don’t offer it”. Each has completed at least 200 single-family renovations. Senior trainer RM Santucci  edited The Rehab Specialist Manual Of Practice  and has published over 80 substantial  articles in 25 publications on effective rehabilitation .  Carlis Sweat is an active Sr. Rehab Specialist with extensive current knowledge in North Carolina policies and renovation techniques. They are the best of two worlds – real, hands-on rehabbers who have also mastered the craft of adult training.  Come see for yourself.  They will change your concept of the benefits and advantages of classroom instruction.

David Del Vecchio has over 20 years of experience and 250 MW of design, installation, operations and maintenance of photovoltaic systems under his belt. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Honor from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. David has designed and installed off‐grid systems with solar/wind/hydro/generator hybrid systems, commercial rooftops and large‐scale ground mounted solar farms.

David became certified by NABCEP as a Certified PV Installation Professional in 2005. He became certified as an IREC Certified Master Trainer for Photovoltaics in 2010. David has been President of Solar Seed, Inc., since 2006. In this capacity, David provides 3rd party services with design assistance, training, construction QC, inspections and commissioning, performance verifications, operations and maintenance. As a sought‐after PV trainer in NC, David teaches for the NC Solar Center, Central Carolina Community College, and for Solar Energy International based in Colorado. He also teaches in Canada, Hawaii and the British Virgin Islands.
